Downtown for the Holidays
For a memorable holiday experience head downtown because the city is full of holiday spirit and fun. Santa’s Workshop is a free program where children can visit with Santa, make crafts, and write letters to Santa. The Holly Jolly Trolley is a free way to get around downtown. Our holiday programming is generously supported by the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation.

I love a Piano
Farmer’s Alley Theatre is now playing the musical, “I Love a Piano”, featuring music by Irvin Berlin. Berlin’s classics such as “White Christmas” are performed by an outstanding cast, which includes the estimable Lori Moore. I Love a Piano will be playing at through January 5, but shows are selling out. Click here to buy tickets.

Ugly Sweater Tour  
This Saturday is a perfect time to take out the ugly holiday sweater and head downtown. Take a fun holiday tour of Kalamazoo’s new local breweries while spreading holiday spirit. The crew will be meeting at Old Dog Tavern then heading to Ruppert’s Brew HouseGonzo’s BiggDog Brewing, and Boatyard Brewing. For more information, click here.

New Year’s Fest  skyline fireworks 2011
Whether you are continuing the tradition or starting a new one, mark your calendars for the always fun-filled New Year’s Eve Fest held on December 31. This fest includes events for the whole family including live music, jugglers comedy acts and more. Peter Pan Continues 
The Kalamazoo Civic Theatre presents Peter Pan as an annual holiday tradition. MLive calls director Nicki Poer’s production “a magical dose of fairy dust for families,” saying that you will adore the lively and passionate cast. Food Dance Opens New Market

Art Hop & More-May13This Friday is going to be the biggest Art Hop yet! There are 77 sites hosting artwork by local painters, photographers, sculptors, and more. It’s a chance to meet the artists, see their work, and show support. Bring the family down to this free all-ages event.

Holly Jolly Trolley Route
The Holly Jolly Trolley is a wonderful way to take in the holiday decorations and lights downtown. To ride, just wait at one of the stops shown on the map. To help you plan, it leaves Bronson Park at the top and bottom of every hour. Thanks to MLive Media Group and theIrving S. Gilmore Foundation, it’s free!

Holiday Parade, November 9
The Holiday Parade will be kicking off at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 9th. The streets will be filled with festive holiday music, floats, balloons & cheer, presented by Maple Hill Auto Group. Rumor has it that Mr. and Mrs. Clause will be on the Mall from 1-2pm! Visit here for more information.

Michigan Festival of Sacred Music, Begins Nov 7
This bi-annual festival takes place in and around downtown Kalamazoo, including the Library and our beautiful, historic churches surrounding Bronson Park. The diversity of offerings is what makes this a wonderful festival, with a selection from almost every tradition. Check their website for more details.

Loaves and Fishes Food Drive
Looking to make this the biggest one-day food drive yet! On November 9th, we will be collecting non-perishable items during the Holiday Parade. Meijer has provided shopping carts that will be pushed by volunteers to collect donated items during the parade. Click here for more information on how to push a cart or to donate items.

Holiday Parade Volunteers 

We need 100 volunteers every year to keep the Kalamazoo Holiday Parade running smoothly, so join us in this fun and easy way to spread the holiday spirit. Most of these jobs are one-day commitments, so come wrangle, carry, distribute or greet. Visit here for more information.

A great deal of ceremony – and even some superstition – surrounds the moment in construction when the last beam is put into place. It involves a crane, a United States flag, and a Christmas Tree. Bronson Children’s Hospital Walk & RunBronson Children’s Hospital Walk & Run, formerly known as the Walk Across Kalamazoo, is picking up speed this year.
